When Epson came to me and asked me to have a 'creative' giveaway for their Epson Artisan 800 printer, it was a breath of fresh air to do something a little different than my normal giveaways. I tried to do something creative yet still have it be an easy entry to do.

I can say, I'm really surprised at the lack of entries for the printer. It wasn't really a hard thing to do, it took maybe a few minutes to get a picture and create a blog post or email, but I think it's pretty worth it for a chance to win a $300 printer. Apparently most of you disagreed. That's ok though, creative giveaways are great, and it's a learning experience...I'll keep it in the back of my computer memory on what to do and when to do a more creative giveaway next time. I understand why it wasn't done either, sometimes they're overlooked or people wait to do it until a later date and just forget about it, I've done that before myself.

50 years of Johnson's

Happy Anniversary Johnson’s baby products!!! Can you believe that Johnson’s baby products have been around for 50 years!!! It’s not often you find a company or products around that long anymore. I know I used Johnson’s products on my girls, my mom used it on me as well, and to think, her mom probably used them on her too. Think of the generations that Johnson’s has helped clean and care for.

My girls aren’t babies anymore, but we still use a lot of Johnson’s products for their sensitive skin. Products like the Johnson’s Head-To-Toe Foaming Wash and the Baby Bubble Bath & Wash are still used in our home, and make the girls smell wonderful. Plus with the No-More-Tears formula it’s something safe to use, and I don’t have to hear the whines and cries about soap in the eyes.

Johnson’s has even gone high tech, you can check out their new channel on YouTube called Johnson’s Baby Channel.

The think I like about Johnson’s products is that they are also free of dyes and are hypoallergenic, so I feel safe using them on my girls sensitive skin. Heck, I’ll admit it, sometimes I even find myself using their products still.

Tackle It Tuesday...

I finally decided to jump on the Tackle It Tuesday bandwagon. I have a ton of clutter in my home, and this spring we really want to start re-painting and re-organizing this house. We've been in it for a little over 2 years now and it's time that this place has our touch to it, not the old owners.

So what a better thing to do than to start re-organizing and tackling those projects that go unlooked on a daily basis, that way in the spring when we decide to go all 'hardcore' on projects, I wont have to enlist a Seattle injury lawyer because I was injured from all the hard work. Today I decided to tackle my hallway closet. Our bathroom is really small so right across from the bathroom is a big pantry/closet where we keep most of our personal products and such, it's a disaster as you can see.

I didn't realize how much garbage was in there, things we no longer need or were expired you name it it was in there. So about an hour after I started, I got it all organized. Even organized things by people, my stuff all on the top, hubby's on the next shelf, an empty shelf for more towels and guest things, and then the bottom shelf all my hair 'appliances' and the girls stuff. Anything too large to fit on the shelves went on the floor on the bottom of the closet.


So there you have it, my Tackle It Tuesday!!!

A healthy alternative to fast food...

I’ve done really good getting my family to eat healthier, even my little picky eaters are starting to eat healthier alternatives to things. It’s great when you can do this as a family and everyone is still happy with their meals.

Something I recently was able to introduce to the girls was some great products from a company called GoPicnic. We were able to try the Mighty Munch Sampler which contains 6 great Mighty Munch Kids Meals. Each Mighty Much Kids Meal contains not only a healthy lunch, but for the kids, it also comes with a prize inside to keep it interesting. Inside the Mighty Munch Sampler was the following:

I was pretty surprised that I didn’t have to fight with them to eat each thing contained in the box; they gladly did it on their own.

These are a great alternative to fast food meals; they’re also shelf stable and all natural. There’s no trans-fats, high fructose corn syrup or MSG. You can also find vegetarian, kosher or gluten-free options. For those with nut allergies, their products are also 100% peanut free and contain no tree nut ingredients.

We even brought a few of these along for our car trip to Canada, and the girls were able to have healthy road snacks on the way, which they really enjoyed. Lyric isn’t in school yet, but come this fall she will be, I’m definitely looking into buying some of these great products to give to her for lunch during school days. It would be a nice alternative and treat for her to have.

Chris Brown has finally released a statement...

I'm sure by now everyone is sick of hearing about Chris Brown and Rhianna. I know I am, but the curiosity inside of me keeps kicking on what really happened.

Chris Brown has apparently finally made a statement:

Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired. I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones and I am committed, with God’s help, to emerging a better person. Much of what has been speculated or reported on blogs and/or reported in the media is wrong. While I would like to be able to talk about this more, until the legal issues are resolved, this is all I can say except that I have not written any messages or made any posts to Facebook, on blogs or any place else. Those posts or writing under my name are frauds.

I think at this point in time, everyone really needs to step back and let what's going to happen or what needs to happen, happen. The media is reporting too many false reports, pictures and rumors and is just making things worse. It's not really our business what is going on between the two of them. The media has already painted Chris Brown as a monster even though, no charges have been laid, no one knows the truth, and Rhianna hasn't even spoken about this.

It's funny how his ads/sponsorships are pulling his content, some radio stations are even pulling his music. What were all these radio stations doing during the time Michael Jackson or R.Kelly were being investigated for molestation and/or child pornography? They were still playing their music all over the radio, still supporting these musicians as if they did nothing wrong. Now, I'm not condoning what Chris Brown did, but we don't know the entire story, and I though that in this country you were innocent until proven guilty, but I guess with the media around, we always know how that goes.

Eating pasta without guilt

Forget the low carb diets. I’m just not one of those people that can hang with something like that. While I do watch the types of carbs I put into my body, and strive to make them healthier choices that I make, I just can’t give up my pasta. Granted, when I do eat it, I always go with the healthiest choice, I go with the whole grain or whole wheat pasta’s over the white. What I do need in my diet though, is more fiber. I’ve been striving to find ways to get more fiber into my diet besides relying on just vegetables alone.

A while back I wrote up a review on some really yummy Mac & Cheese from Fiber Gourmet. Mac & Cheese that was not only good, but made me feel better when feeding it to my kids, and was something I was able to eat as well as it was low in calories and high in fiber. Well Fiber Gourmet is at it again with some more high fiber, low calorie pastas.

I recently was able to try some of their new pasta shapes. The Light Penne and Light Rotini shapes are just like classic pasta, except without the high calories and with more fiber! Each serving is 130 calories which is 40% fewer than standard pasta. You’ll also find each serving to have 18g of fiber, which is a whopping 72% of the daily value of fiber required. Their packages come in ½ lb weight and carry a 2 year shelf life. They’re also Kosher certified, they have 40% fewer ‘net carbs’ than standard pasta, and for those of you on weight watchers, only 2 points per serving (standard pasta is 4 and whole wheat is 3).

I’m a huge fan of Fiber Gourmet pasta’s; they taste great and are healthy not only for you but your entire family. There’s really no difference in the taste between this pasta and your standard pasta, I couldn’t tell the difference, neither could any member of my family including my picky children. It’s nice to know that even while dieting and watching my calorie intake there is an alternative out there that allows me to eat the pasta I want, when I want without the guilt.

My girls are so crafty and artistic; they could do crafts or artsy stuff for hours on end. Myself, I’m not into crafts so much so when an idea comes along where I don’t have to think so much about an activity for the girls to do, I’m all over it!

Allowing kids to have some creativity of their own is an important thing, and allowing them to display their artwork will make them proud, they’ll be like my girls and just want to show anyone who will let them.

Ah to be pregnant again...

As a mom of two children who are no longer cuddly babies, those days often find me where I’m wishing I was pregnant again. You know the days where you have your pregnant friends who have that glow, who get to feel those cute little belly movements and swift kicks and you’re reminded of your time being pregnant again. I had a pretty good and easy pregnancy with both my girls and yea, there’s days where I really miss it, but then the girls do something and well, I’m glad those days are far behind me now, it’s not something I think I want to do ever again.

One thing I’m not jealous of is trying to find comfortable and stylish clothes while I was pregnant. I actually hated maternity clothes, they have come a long way since our parents were pregnant with us, but boy, they’re still not the same as your regular old jeans, plus the price, for the 9 months you’re only going to wear them (or actually less), they can be a little outrageous. I wish they would have had something like the Bella Band back then though, the ability to transform my regular jeans into something I could have worn when I was pregnant would have been a lifesaver so many times, and saved me a bunch of money as well.

One thing first time mom’s don’t expect (I know I sure didn’t) was that you’ll probably walk out of that hospital in the same clothes you walked in there with. Yes your maternity clothes. That was a bit of a shocker for me that I was still wearing them even days after my daughter was born, that baby weight just doesn’t slide off some of us just as fast, but lucky for pregnant mom’s today, there is something they can use that can help you slim down that extra belly weight while giving you comfort and support. The Belly Bandit would have come in so handy pre-pregnancy and maybe I wouldn’t be struggling so much today with that extra belly weight still from when I was pregnant.

Maternity clothes are not fun, but with so many places now like Maternal America, you can make them at least a little stylish, just think, there’s a cute little baby in there just waiting to come out and give you some smiles, the uncomfortableness and ‘feeling fat’ is well worth it in the long run, and hey, there’s so many places to shop now you don’t have to give up your ‘shopping sprees’. Just think of it as an extra special shopping trip.

Happy Valentine's Day

I know I said in a previous post that we don't really celebrate Valentine's Day around here, but I got a wonderful surprise this morning when I woke up. Hubby had to work today, got up this morning before all of us to leave so I didn't even get to say good bye to him this morning.

I awoke to find heart tissue paper all over our dining room table with a big white envelope with my name on it and a small bag behind it...What a surprise to wake up to considering I wasn't expecting anything.

I opened the card which was so beautiful I almost cried, and after that I started to open the bag, to which I found another envelope inside. Once opened I found a Gift Card to Lane Bryant for $100. I just yelled out OH.MY.GOD!

This man was so sweet, I really didn't expect a thing this year, and I come this morning to find this. Makes me look REAL good now when I got him NOTHING... NOW WHAT! Oh well, I thought about getting him something, I have some great lingerie to show him, so I guess that's going to be his gift.

Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!

For me to listen to something other than Hip Hop or R&B is an adventure. As my husband says I’m a music snob, if it’s not Hip Hop/R&B or Reggae, I won’t listen to it. Well I decided to prove him wrong! I took a leap forward and found the “He’s Just Not That Into You” Original Motion Picture Soundtrack and popped it into my cd player.

The CD has some pretty catchy tunes on it, mostly from artists I personally have never heard of before like Corinne Bailey Rae, Tristan Prettyman, My Morning Jacket but there’s also a few that I have heard of like R.E.M., Maroon 5, and Lilly Allen.

Getting Back on the grind...

Getting back on the exercise wagon isn't an easy task I'm finding out. I've been out for maybe 2 weeks now, and it feels like forever! I was down 12 lbs but now, I'm not so sure. I'm afraid to weigh myself, I don't want to see the numbers go back up, I just want to see them go down. I just feel depressed about it.

I got back on the horse today and did some piddly exercises. I can tell I'm still not at 100% as I huff and puff and cough just trying to do some crunches, so I guess I still have to take it easy. Drink my water, eat healthy and do some movement every day, even if it's just a little. I think once I get back on my Wii Fit, it's going to have some harsh words for me for not using it for so long.

As depressed as I am about this, I'm determined not to give up, I've done so well before I got sick, and I'm going to finish this, I'm going to continue to loose this weight and I'm going to be happy about myself once and for all.

So do you actually celebrate Valentine’s Day? For the most part, we don’t even bother. I was going to get something for hubby this year, something special, just for him. Maybe even delivered to his work, since he does have to work on Valentine’s Day, but with the prices of things, I said forget it.

Myself, I do enjoy getting gifts no matter what the occasion. I’ll be honest, it would be nice to get some flowers this year, but I’m not holding my breath. I saw some beautiful flowers from Martha Stewart the other day and could just daydream about the beautiful fragrance they must have, and how nice my home would smell if I could have them. In reality though, I probably won’t get them, and it’s probably a good thing. They’ll just die, I don’t have a green thumb and I know flowers don’t last forever, but it seems when I have them, they’re lucky if they last a day.

So I guess we’ll each have to settle for ‘fantasy’s’ on Valentine’s Day (hint hint) and hopefully that will be enough. I don’t need a day to express my love for my husband, he knows I love him and that’s all that matters, no matter what day it is.

A wonderful scent welcomes you...

I love nice smells in the air. Candles, oils, air fresheners you name it I have to have it in my home. Candles have become a danger in our home though with the kids around, and I’ve become a huge fan of my Glade Wisp Flameless Candle, but I’m always looking for great new ideas to freshen the air.

Glade has come up with a great idea once again with their newest air freshener. The new Glade Sense & Spray. This new air freshener has a motion sensor that only releases the scent when there’s motion detected, well sometimes. I have noticed that light changes in the room will set it off as well, but no big deal. The great thing is, even if there are constant light changes, or motion around the freshener it’s only set to release a scent every 30 minutes. So you can wave your hands in front of it as much as you want. Once it’s sprayed it won’t do it again until 30 minutes passes, that is unless you hit the ‘boost’ button manually which will let you add a ‘boost’ of fragrance to the air whenever you think it’s needed.

I love the scent that we have. Clean Linen, it’s so fragrant but not enough to knock you on your feet, it’s just right. The unit also comes in Lilly of the Valley scent and you can get refills in many other scents as well such as Magnolia & Vanilla, Apple Cinnamon, Country Garden and Powder Fresh.

We have ours placed near the front door, where there’s enough traffic to set it off, but not too much to set the fragrance off EVERY 30 minutes. I really love the motion sensor addition to this, what a great idea, and when you walk through the door, you get a burst of a clean, fresh scent. Pledge Fabric Sweeper for Pet Hair...

Cat Hair!!!! It’s everywhere in my house… We’ve got two cats and they can shed like no tomorrow. The cat’s favorite spots are in a few select places that include; on top of our recliner, on the back of the couch, and on Rodney’s clothes. Pet owners know that pet hair isn’t something that can just be easily swept away. That is until you use the Pledge Fabric Sweeper for Pet Hair!

The newest product from Pledge, the Fabric Sweeper for Pet Hair at first looks pretty simple when you open the box, and really it is simple to use. Once you open the box you can go directly to that pesky spot where all that pet hair my lie. I went directly to the back of my couches with the Fabric Sweeper. Using short strokes in a back and forth motion the sweeper quickly lifts and traps pet hair inside the plastic dome. It’s really a simple and easy idea, but unlike vacuum brushes or lint rollers the hair is trapped inside the dome and can’t fly out with the air to get back on your upholstery. The two rollers both serve a purpose in each direction you go. Go in one direction and the roller cleans off the first roller and pushes the hair inside. No pet hair build up, simply roll the rollers side to side each way to get them cleared off and clean.

This is something I really wish they thought of sooner, the people who need this most? My parents!
