Eating pasta without guilt

Forget the low carb diets. I’m just not one of those people that can hang with something like that. While I do watch the types of carbs I put into my body, and strive to make them healthier choices that I make, I just can’t give up my pasta. Granted, when I do eat it, I always go with the healthiest choice, I go with the whole grain or whole wheat pasta’s over the white. What I do need in my diet though, is more fiber. I’ve been striving to find ways to get more fiber into my diet besides relying on just vegetables alone.

A while back I wrote up a review on some really yummy Mac & Cheese from Fiber Gourmet. Mac & Cheese that was not only good, but made me feel better when feeding it to my kids, and was something I was able to eat as well as it was low in calories and high in fiber. Well Fiber Gourmet is at it again with some more high fiber, low calorie pastas.

I recently was able to try some of their new pasta shapes. The Light Penne and Light Rotini shapes are just like classic pasta, except without the high calories and with more fiber! Each serving is 130 calories which is 40% fewer than standard pasta. You’ll also find each serving to have 18g of fiber, which is a whopping 72% of the daily value of fiber required. Their packages come in ½ lb weight and carry a 2 year shelf life. They’re also Kosher certified, they have 40% fewer ‘net carbs’ than standard pasta, and for those of you on weight watchers, only 2 points per serving (standard pasta is 4 and whole wheat is 3).

I’m a huge fan of Fiber Gourmet pasta’s; they taste great and are healthy not only for you but your entire family. There’s really no difference in the taste between this pasta and your standard pasta, I couldn’t tell the difference, neither could any member of my family including my picky children. It’s nice to know that even while dieting and watching my calorie intake there is an alternative out there that allows me to eat the pasta I want, when I want without the guilt.

Check out Fiber Gourmet and all their great products by visiting www.fibergourmet.com

WIN IT!!!

Fiber Gourmet wants you to see just how great their pasta is so they’re letting me give away one of their Mini Samplers. Included in the sampler one lucky winner will get 2 boxes of Penne, 2 boxes of Rotini and 2 boxes of short fettuccine, a $22 value. What do you have to do to be entered? The Mac and Cheese appeals to me the most because my kids are HUGE fans of Mac and Cheese. I learned the following:

So how do you get the calories so low?

By adding lots of insoluble fiber. Because your body can't digest it, each gram of insoluble fiber has 0 calories, as opposed to 4-9 calories for protein, carbohydrates, or fat. So as the proportion of insoluble fiber in the food goes up, the calories go down.

Mac 'N Cheese is my weakness. I think it must be alot of others too, since it's out of stock and will be shipped in March when available again. All of them sound great though, and I know we'd all enjoy them. I need the Mac 'N Cheese because we haven't had any in about 6 months. I like that they are truly a light calorie food. Hubby and Mommy are on a diet in this household. We are losing, but some good old comfort food like Mac 'N Cheese would be great about now, when the cravings are really starting to get to both of us. Thanks for the giveaway.

I am constantly on the lookout for ways to increase fiber in our house. I'd like to try Garlic Parsley Fettuccine Nests (or any of them for that matter).

I know the Spinach Fettucine Nests would be a favorite in this household - my husband absolutely loves pasta and now he has the kids asking for it as well. So, giving them what they like and being healthy about it is a match with my arm raised in victory! ;)

The Fettuccine Nests, all the flavors sound good but If I had to pick one it would be spinach. I am diabetic and I can usually have only very small amounts of pasta to stay within my Carb limits.I miss being able to have a big plate of pasta. The high amount of fiber in this pasta would make it perfect for someone like me.

I think the flavored fettuccini sounds fun to try--I need to get more fiber from something other than beans--cause my body getting tired of them.

Classic Rotini, spaghetti with Rotini or I don't eat! When I was a kid, it was a similar thing, but with wagon wheel pasta..
