Making Life Better...

With summer comes new routines and exciting activities, as our kids head to camp, play and splash at pool parties, stay up later, and spend long, sunny days outside. Of course, not everything changes during the summer, especially a Mom’s routine. We still get up early, do laundry, pack lunches, and get dinner on the table, no matter the season or day of the week.

To bring some variety to meal-planning this summer, Unilever teamed up with the author of the “Kitchen Coach” cookbook series, Jennifer Bushman, to create the ultimate Family Fun Book, filled with delicious recipes and affordable meal ideas perfect for the whole family to enjoy – together. The Family Fun Book can be downloaded for free by clicking here.

Bushman recommends making meal time “family time” by bringing the kids into the kitchen to help prepare the meal. By keeping a well-stocked refrigerator, freezer, and pantry with versatile and easy-to-prepare ingredients, it’s simple to get the whole family involved in the cooking process. In addition to kid-friendly recipes, Bushman suggests, add in a little fun with creative themes and recipes like these:

Have an at-home dinner picnic. Spread a blanket out in the living room and prepare simple sandwiches or wraps, like a delicious Chicken & Basil Sandwich . Opt for Hellmann’s Light Mayonnaise, which has the great taste but half the calories and fat of Hellmann’s. Get the kids involved by letting them pick the sandwich fixins and spread the mayo!

Save on cooking and clean-up time by choosing easy, delicious, one-pot dips and recipes. Use sweet potatoes or yams to prepare Spicy Oven Fries and pair with your favorite dipping sauce. To sneak in some nutrition and receive 20 percent of your daily value of Vitamin D, top with melted Shedd’s Spread Country Crock Calcium Plus Vitamin D. With just three steps, this recipe is perfect for setting loose your child’s inner chef.

To make nights in even more enjoyable, pair meals with fun at-home entertainment. Spend less time in the kitchen by using Knorr Rice Sides to make an easy one-dish meal like Grilled Chicken & Veggies Over Rice , then create a show by letting your kids sing their favorite songs in your very own “kitchen cabaret.”

Host a camping-inspired sleepover for the kids and create a kitchen retreat with campfire meals. Use whole grain tortillas as a healthy and easy dipper for your favorite one-pot recipes like Super Easy Slow-Cooked Chili with Ragu Pasta Sauce, which packs a full serving of vegetables in every half-cup of sauce. Not to mention that a slow cooked meal leaves more time for “camping” activities!
Use versatile ingredients from your well-stocked pantry. Wish-Bone Dressings can do double-duty as delicious salad dressings and simple, great tasting marinades for chicken, pork, beef and fish. Pair with soy sauce for a delicious Asian Grilled Steak . You may want to keep your children away from the grill, but they can help by preparing the steak ahead of time.

Summer and iced tea go hand-in-hand to stay hydrated. Did you know those tea bags can also spice up your cooking? Use Lipton Teabags to create Tasty Tea Baked Apples – a delicious desert with an extra helping of antioxidants for just $1 per serving.

I wrote this review while participating in a blog campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Unilever/Making Life Better. Mom Central sent me a gift card and a copy of the Family Fun Book to thank me for taking the time to participate.

My excitment includes carpet cleaning...

I was just telling hubby the other day that this carpet needs a cleaning BADLY! After all the workers in here and the dust and construction last month going on, my light colored carpet in the living room is disgusting. I’ve been putting off renting a cleaner long enough and it needs to be done. I really hate cleaning the carpets, it's not one of my favorite jobs, not like it's a hard thing or that I'd need to contact a Seattle personal injury lawyer after doing the work or anything, it's just not fun.

This weekend I was going to get the chance to do that, until I got a phone call yesterday. One of the previous contractors working on our home during the reconstruction gave us a call and told me they wanted to book us in for a carpet cleaning.

WOOHOO! I don’t have to do it myself anymore, they’re coming in tomorrow morning, so dang early I might add 8:15am, and cleaning all the main walkway carpets, so that includes the stairwell, the hallway, the living room and the dining room. They did say they won’t be moving any furniture but that’s fine for me, I’ll just move it all out of the way tonight so they can get in there good!

So that’s my good news for the day, I’m having a professional carpet cleaning done not at my expense or labor, ha ha ha! I do wish I could get a carpet cleaner of my own though, hmm could it be a future review?

How about you, any good news for yourselves today?

Shower Yourself Beautiful!

Sometimes the most expensive products aren’t a favorite, or the best. I’m a huge fan of Suave products and use them on myself and my entire family. I am however one of those people that find something they like and stick to it, so I was grateful when MomSelect offered me the opportunity to review the Shower Yourself Beautiful Suave Skin Care line.

With products such as the Naturals Apricot Exfoliating Body Wash, Naturals Wild Cherry Blossom Body Wash, and Skin Therapy Cocoa Butter with Shea Moisturizer my entire family is soft, silky, smooth and fresh smelling after our showers are done. I can say my favorite so far is the Apricot Exfoliating Body Wash the scent is amazing (not overwhelming) and it does exfoliate well with the tiny exfoliating beads inside, the Skin Therapy Cocoa Butter with Shea Moisturizer works well for both myself and my children who (as my daughter says) needs the stuff to keep her from being ashy! It’s not greasy and has a pleasant scent that keeps your skin soft and smooth.

Suave has teamed up with Actress, Holly Robinson Peete who is offering great tips for making the most out of life’s small indulgences. Things like:

- Slip into a delicious fragrance, Holly says to wear an alluring fragrance that makes you feel beautiful.

- Book an appointment with yourself; Shower yourself beautiful by hosting an at-home spa day.

- Schedule a “Tea” time, studies show that taking even a two minute break from your hectic schedule can reduce stress levels. Try this trick to add some relaxation to your daily grind.

- Love, Me send yourself some flowers especially if you already need to swing by the florist to pick up flowers for a wedding or baby shower.

- Shower yourself beautiful everyday trade in your daily shower for a relaxing bath that’s fit for a queen! Transform your bathroom into a private sanctuary by lighting an aromatherapy-inspired candle and playing your favorite tunes.

Holly Robinson Peete has some great tips that I think we all can take part in, we just need to find the time to do it in our busy lives. As women, we love to be pampered and feel great and Suave knows we deserve that at the very best way possible, that’s why Suave products have great scents, feel great on your skin and are at affordable prices.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to try Suave yet, check out the money saving coupon you can get so you can try out Suave for yourself, and if you don’t like it, Suave will offer you your money back. For more information and products about Suave visit them online at www.suave.com

Finally, it's my home...

This summer from the start has probably been a summer I’ll never forget. We’ve been so busy with things and unexpected trips that it’s flying by, I actually don’t mind though, I’d rather this summer be over and done with quickly. With all the things that have happened these past few months/weeks, I’m glad to see summer go. I guess the only bright side of things is that I can think, what more could go wrong? Everything and anything you could expect bad to happen did, and I pray there’s no more in store.

Starting with the lovely flood we had in June which resulted in our bathroom and kitchen being torn apart and me taking off for a few weeks. Sometimes I’m kind of glad the flood happened, I mean I got a newly decorated bathroom and kitchen out of it, things that needed to be done anyways, I just wish it didn’t have to happen the way it did.

My house was in shambles for weeks, even after my return, the overwhelming process of putting everything back, and having to clean up the contractors mess, I’m still finding dust in places and it’s aggravating! The only plus side, I’ve been able to spruce up the rooms with some great home decor and I’ve even found some kitchen furniture as well that I’ve put into the kitchen and/or hope to order soon.

The house is looking better than ever, it’s finally after 2 years starting to look like our home rather than the previous owners, now if I can just get the guts to paint the bedrooms we’d be great, I hope to get the girls room done sooner rather than later as they’re getting older and need a little more color and organization in there, especially with Lyric going to school this year.

I could chronicle my attempts to paint I guess right here on the blog, that could make for some funny vlogs and pictures for you all to enjoy. I have no idea how to paint, and I’m the type of person who starts something and then gets so frustrated I make my hubby finish….Hmmm I think I may have to look into this a little more…

**GIVEAWAY** Win a 16x20 Canvas Print...

This summer hasn’t been one of the greatest for me and my family, but there have been some good times and what a better way to capture them than to get those photos printed up on a 16x20 Gallery or Museum Wrapped Canvas Print. Most of the photos around my house, hanging up on the wall involve one or both of my children, it’s hard to find photos of me and my hubby together, especially after the kids, so I’d love to capture one of the great summer memories we’ve had so far of us together, and yes of course at a wrestling match but I think it’s such a great photo I’d love to have it hanging on the wall.

How would you like an Epic Summer vacation?

Have you been able to get away this summer for a family vacation? Unfortunately we didn’t really get to go on the family vacation that we wanted to this year due to various circumstances that have happened this year. Lord knows we really need an actual vacation rather than just a trip up to Canada to my parents house, but alas another summer goes by and we’ll have to wait till next year.

One of the many great places for a family vacation that I’ve heard about is a trip to Colorado. I’ve personally never been but the pictures I’ve seen and the things I’ve heard, it makes my brain work a bit harder thinking maybe we’ll be there next summer.

Why not have a family vacation and make it an epic summer. From gondola rides at Keystone and Vail to whitewater rafting in the Rockies, Going to Beaver Creek and horseback riding or panning for gold in Breckenridge, a vacation in Colorado seems to have everything we’d never do at home, and that’s what makes a vacation great to me. Why travel to places where you can do the same old thing, make it an epic summer and have an exciting adventure.

Visiting www.epicsummer.com can help you out with your Colorado summer vacation, with helpful trip itineraries for four or seven day trips, a guide to lead you along the way and visiting all the regional destinations, epicsummer.com will give you the insider’s perspective of Colorado.

Some activities may include:

Keystone - Elevation 9,280’
Welcome reception followed by dinner. Scenic gondola ride and guided hike, mountaintop picnic. Wagon ride to cowboy dinner, campfire and star-gazing.

Breckenridge - Elevation 9,603’
Stroll Main Street. Learn about the town’s history. Take a mining tour. Go gold panning.

Rafting Trip
Combine the scenic beauty of the Colorado Rockies with an exciting day of rafting.

Beaver Creek - Elevation 8,100’
Horseback ride through Aspens for a picnic lunch in a meadow all the way. Enjoy a guided nature hike. Explore Beaver Creek Village.

Vail - Elevation 8,150’
On the way from Keystone to Vail drive Loveland Pass to the Continental Divide, light hiking. Scenic gondola ride in Vail to mountain top for a picnic. Fun afternoon at Adventure Ridge including Frisbee golf and other activities. Get a dose of history at the Colorado Ski Museum.

Rocky Mountain National Park
Hiking, site-seeing and a picnic. Tour Estes Park. Visit native buffalo in Genesee.

If this doesn’t sound exciting I don’t know what does. My kids would be sure to enjoy something like this, as would my hubby and I. Colorado is looking better and better to me, and with this helpful trip itinerary, it makes my family vacation planning that much easier!

I wrote this review while participating in a blog and giveaway campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Epic Summer and Vail Resorts. Mom Central sent me a gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate.

My birthday wish came true, thanks to YOU!

If you remember a few weeks back, I thought of a very good idea. Well, a good idea in my own mind anyways, of overloading Jeremy Borash and Austin Creed from TNA wrestling with tweets from my fellow readers and friends.

You see, if you weren’t following what was going on me and hubby had tickets to TNA wrestling the weekend of my birthday. My normal wrestling events include me (as my hubby calls it) stalking the wrestlers before the show outside of the venue. Most of the time this is how you get the autographs and some great pics with some wrestlers, this time was going to be no different, but this time, I wanted to step it up a notch.

I blogged, I tweeted and it happened! I had my fellow readers and friends tweet Jeremy Borash and Austin “Awesome” Creed basically selling me to them to get some backstage passes and/or to just meet my favorite TNA wrestler Consequences Creed, you know since it was my birthday and all.

Well, this is to show you just how much ‘power’ social networking has. I got responses from both @austincreed and @jeremyborash and my birthday wish came true. JB told me to meet him at intermission while Austin Creed said he’d have 2 passes waiting for me at will call.

I was so excited, and I can’t thank my readers and friends enough! You made this girl’s birthday THE BEST EVER!!!! Now the only thing was to make sure I was ready looking good, and to cover up any of that acne that was trying to make an appearance. I swear, before we left I looked great, but after running around all day, getting excited being outside in the heat, the sweat ruined my hair and makeup and BLAH...Oh well...

Once we arrived at the venue we waited and waited for wrestlers to arrive. A blue car was at the stop sign and knowing they were driving in from New York I was getting excited when I noticed New York plates, 4 people in the car, and one with some big ass hair! IT WAS CREED!!! With a giant grin and a big wave he was waving at me as he drove by. I was ecstatic!!! A few moments later I checked my twitter and there was a tweet for me from @austincreed “Sweet Shirt!” I was once again as giddy as a school girl, you see I ordered his tee straight from his website just for the event, and he noticed me YAY!!!

Yes I’m a geek; this is how you can see I earned the name A Wrestling Addicted Mommy. Thank goodness I have a forgiving and understanding husband who doesn’t mind me going all high school girly to some hot wrestlers. Once the doors opened I went to collect my passes and couldn’t believe that I actually had the passes in my hand. We headed into the venue to our seats which were great (5 rows from the ring smack dab in the center), then headed to purchase a program and a tee for my hubby.

This was our very first TNA show, and it won me over big time. I’ve always been a diehard WWE fan but after this show, and how they treat the fans and how, fan friendly they really are TNA won me over for good. We had 4 matches until our little backstage meeting with wrestlers and the countdown was on, it wasn’t hard to not even realize which match we were on as we both got right into the show, chanting, cheering and of course me screaming!

Once it was time to get backstage I was so nervous and giddy. We got to meet Christopher Daniels, Eric Young, Taylor Wilde and Homicide. Jeremy Borash (JB) came out as well and I had little convo with him too, introducing myself as none other than wrestlingaddict and he knew exactly who I was. Consequences Creed then came out later and I was so happy, I couldn’t thank either of them enough. Autographs, pictures and hugs, it was so much fun!!!

We headed back out into the arena for the rest of the matches which were great, if you’ve never been to a TNA live show, make sure it’s one of the ones you check even if you have to make a short trip to do it, it’s very much worth the drive and the money!

After the matches were done and over with, we figured it was just time to head back home, but there was a special little surprise. We got to go into the ring (for $20) and get our pictures taken INSIDE the ring with the greatest tag team of wrestling history Team 3D! This was something we were NOT going to miss out on; we got in line and waited to step into that ring.

I really thought I was going to bust my ass right in front of everyone. I don’t know how any of those women get into that ring without falling in heels. I was on flats and I was sure I was going to fall straight on my ass, thankfully I didn’t. The ring was so bouncy and the ropes were very hard, nothing like I imagined. We walked up to Team 3D who greeted us with smiles, got our pictures taken and then it was out of the ring we went, again me trying not to fall on my face.

After the show I got another autograph from one of my other favorite wrestlers Jay “Black Machismo” Lethal, and a pic too which didn’t turn out well at all so it god deleted. I also got another picture with Austin Creed, I can’t thank him enough for everything he did for me, and he’s one of the sweetest guys I’ve ever met, he’s got a fan in me for life! The picture we took next I also had to thank my husband for endlessly, first because he was never going to hear (or see) the end of it, and second because he actually took the picture and had no issues about it. The picture of me giving Austin Creed a kiss is plastered all over the place, on my twitter, on my facebook, on my computer screen it’s even a theme now on my BlackBerry. I’m one lucky girl for two reasons!

So thank you to @jeremyborash, @austincreed and especially to each and every one of you who tweeted to them be it just for the sake of trying to help me out, or to gain the extra entries for giveaways, your tweeting worked, and I never really imagined that it would get me anything but an “oh my stay away from the crazy wrestlingaddict chick when we get to Hamilton” response from either of them.

TNA Wrestling is in my blood FOREVER now!

Kellogg's Cinnabon Snack Bars...

Mmmmm! The smell of freshly bakes Cinnabon’s, the gooey icing, the tasty cinnamon… It’s been ages since I’ve actually had one. Cinnabon’s although DELICIOUS are the devil to me and my diet right now, and my hubby and children hate that because I’ve forbidden those tasty treats in my home.

Lucky for my hubby and kids, they got just a small taste that I really don’t mind keeping around the house thanks to Kellogg’s. Kellogg’s and Cinnabon have teamed up to make a yummy snack bar that tastes great and doesn’t hold nearly as many calories as a full serving of a Cinnabon.

Kellogg's Cinnabon Snack Bars were a hit in our home, both my hubby and the girls thought the bars were great, you can eat these right out of the box or for an even tastier snack warm them up in the microwave, which was a hit in our home. The bars aren’t Cinnabons but it gives you the taste to satisfy that craving. These are great as grab on the go snacks or for those lunch boxes with the upcoming school year.

Warning though, these aren’t low cal, and I only got a small bite to just see exactly how they tasted, but with the girls and hubby loving them so much, they didn’t last longer than a few days.

It's my party and I'll Wii if I want to...

Have a kiddos birthday coming up? Own a Nintendo Wii? Why not make the birthday a success and do something different that all the guests will enjoy.

Nintendo and 2K Play have just come out with a super cute game that’s sure to cure any birthday party boredom. Birthday Party Bash is a new game for the Nintendo Wii that not only kids will enjoy but parents too. With 20 various games and the ability to choose from party themes the birthday boy/girl and their guests will have a blast.

The game enables 12 different players to play and it makes birthday party games all that more interesting. With each game you earn decorations for your virtual party and at the end when you’ve accomplished your goal, you get to sing Happy Birthday!

The games are all family/kid friendly and loads of fun, my girl’s enjoy the game with a birthday or not. One of the other neat features of this game is that it comes with birthday invitations as well. So with your next party you’ve got your games covered as well as your invites, it’s time to have a Wii Birthday Party Bash!

Return to Sullivan's Island...

Since I’ve finished my beloved Twilight series, I’ve been trying to keep reading. I’m not really a big reader but those books jumped me back onto the reading wagon and I haven’t stopped since.

The latest book I’ve read has nothing to do with Twilight or Vampires. It’s a book about love and self discovery. Return to Sullivans Island by Dorothea Benton Frank is the sequel to the first book Sullivan's Island which tells a story of love, loss, family and history as it follows the life of Susan Hamilton Hayes. The book follows life in the present (1999) as well as during her childhood in 1963. The location, Sullivans Island, the real-life setting of the book and also the author’s hometown, becomes a character in the story itself. Located seven miles off the coast of Charleston, South Carolina, it comes alive though the pages of the novel.

Return to Sullivans Island takes you back to the magical landscape of South Carolina to tell the next generation's story:

"Newly graduated from college and an aspiring writer, Beth Hayes, the protagonist's daughter from the first novel, craves independence and wants to conquer the world. But her notions of travel, graduate study, and writing the great American novel will have to be postponed. With her family leaving town, Beth is elected to house sit. Buoyed by sentimental memories of growing up on this tiny sandbar that seems to be untouched by time, Beth decides to give herself over to the island's force and discover the wisdom it holds. She will rest, rejuvenate, and then reenter the outside world. Yet she comes to realize there is so much about life and her family's past that she does not know. Her ignorance and naiveté nearly cost her both her inheritance and her family's respect, but Beth finds unexpected friends to help her through the disaster she faces. If everything happens for a reason, then Beth's return to Sullivan's Island teaches her that betrayal and tragedy are most easily handled when you surround yourself with loyal people in a magical place that loves you so much that it wants to claim you as its own."

I’m a little backwards reading the sequel first, but I’ll be sure to check out the first book Sullivan's Island so I can wrap them together. It was a great relaxing read and I'm sure the first story will be just the same.

You can purchase both Sullivan's Island and Return to Sullivans Island on Amazon.com

I guess I never really realized how much I missed blogging until I got back home and really haven’t had a chance to hop online much let alone blog. I’ve been re-organizing my house getting some things back in order and time has just flown by. I’ve realized as well how much I need a receipt printer or something of that nature where I can keep a copy of my receipts electronically or something, the amount of them that I find scattered everywhere, even thrown into my review products is crazy!

Anyways, you don’t want to hear about me rambling about such things, I really need to let you know who have won the great prizes that I had up in July. So here goes:

Pigs must be flying!!!

Well, lookie here…. This is a strange thing happening… I’m actually BLOGGING!!! It’s been far too long, and so many things have gone on and happened in the past few months. June was a busy month, and July just got worse. I think I’ve been in Canada now most of the summer and we finally have a time of being back home and trying to resume our normal life.

Things have been backed up and busy, I’m so very sorry to all of my readers and to companies. I know I owe some reviews, I owe some giveaways and I have some winners to announce which I’ll get to in a quick second.

Home is now back in order thank goodness and finally feeling like my own home again, we’ve put our flood behind us and put our house back in order finally. It seems like the never ending issues have finally stopped between disasters, financial difficulties, deaths and who knows what else went on, these past few months were an absolute blur but it’s made me cherish the time I have with my family that’s for sure.

Thankfully though, with all the downfalls this past month me and hubby were able to take some time out for ourselves for once as a couple. Two weekends in a row in fact with TNA wrestling and Beyonce in concert, we were getting a little used to the time together and I really think we need to find a way to do that more often.

I’ve also seemed to be doing well with my diet and exercise program as I’m now down 3 sizes since I started in January, I’ve been doing a traditional eat healthier and exercise method without the help of any of the best diet pills and I’ve seemed to be able to do it. Now I just can’t slack off and stop, I still have a long way to go.

We’re getting ready for Lyric to start school next month. Her first year of school, she’ll be heading to Kindergarten and she’s so excited, unlike her mama who’s scared $*itless of her going to school. We’ve got a whole crew of friends and family who are coming down to celebrate her going to school, she’ll have a tribe with her to drop her off and pick her up on her first day, which is probably more for my own support than to support her. I just may not cry if I have everyone else there.

Both my girls are sick right now, so I don’t have a lot of time to myself today with two whiney children begging for my attention every two seconds because “they feel sick”. The drama is great when these two are sick, especially my oldest. Tonight I’ll have a nice blog about my great Beyonce concert event thanks to Event Chasers, and I’ll also have a few great reviews and giveaways coming up as well.

As of today, I’m back on track with the blogging and hopefully won’t be gone again for such a long period of time. And since I need to get this done instead of putting this off till tonight I’ll announce all the winners in a separate post (this is already long enough!).

Forgive Me....

Please forgive me. I know I haven't been around, I've been super busy personally this past week. I have LOTS of things to update on, winners to announce and more reviews and giveaways to post. However, yet again I have to head back up to Canada for a few days tonight, I'll be back on Thursday refreshed, and ready to blog blog blog!!!!

So please bare with me, I'll announce the winners as soon as I can but right now I've gotta pack up and get ready to head out of here for a few days.

Gone ... wrestler stalking for the weekend....

I’m going to be gone again for the weekend… At least this time it’s for a good reason and not because our home is being remodeled or there’s a family emergency.

I’m going home (Canada) to celebrate my birthday!!! That’s right, hubby bought me floor seats to the TNA show going on in Hamilton tomorrow night and I’m going to be 5 rows back from the ring! As a Wrestling Addicted Mommy, you have to know that I’m ECSTATIC about this!!!
Celebrating my birthday back home with family and friends AND WRESTLERS!

If you haven’t seen already a few days ago I got the genius idea to have (as one of my readers coined it thanks Cindy/Spoodles) my readers and twitter followers tweg (twitter + beg) one of my favorite TNA wrestlers @AustinCreed and TNA personality @JeremyBorash to get me some VIP Backstage passes or at least enable me to meet Creed while at the show for my birthday. I enabled readers who ‘twegged’ for me to use their twegs for extra bonus entries in some of the giveaways going on. See HERE to read the post and help me out!

The show is tomorrow night at 7:30pm ET, and I can’t tell you how excited I am to go so keep those tweets coming!!!! Let’s see if the power of social networking actually works!!! Keep an eye on my twitter account Friday night if the tweets work, I'll be sure to post!!!!

Bonus entries for tweeting can be used in the following giveaways:
Sticky Words Vinyl Lettering
Chicken Soup for the Soul
Lands' End
Purex

Remember the Bonus Tweet Entries are only available until Friday at 7:30pm ET! Thanks to everyone who has 'twegged' for me so far and who continue to do it!
