Cheddar Crackers Straight From The Oven...

I think a favorite of almost all children has to be those yummy, cheesy Cheez-it or Goldfish Crackers, heck even as an adult I know how GOOD they taste!! However, sometimes they aren’t the healthiest, sure they’re baked, but have you ever taken a look at the sodium content and all those ingredients that you can’t pronounce!

I recently ran across a great recipe to make these yummy crackers yourself, at home. Savory Seasonings (now one of my favorite foodie blogs) not only has a great recipe for Cheddar Goldfish Crackers, but you’ll also find a lot of other popular snack foods that you can make on your own and make them just a bit healthier as well.

The Cheddar Goldfish Crackers are super easy! You don't need to have any protective clothing (lol) and only a few key ingredients are required. Flour, cheddar Cheese, Butter and water with a hint of salt/pepper to taste, of course though you may not get the fun goldfish shapes, but if your creative or have smaller cookie cutters sure you could do it. To make these all you do is roll out the dough, cut the pieces into your shape of choice and pop them in the oven for about 15-20 minutes then VOILA! You’ve got your own version of cheddar crackers right from your own hands and oven.

Full Recipe Details: Cheddar Goldfish Crackers

Health Care Reform leads to De-friending on Facebook...

Why? That's my only question....

Why is it that when you're friends with people in the Facebook community once you say something or do something on your own wall, on your own status and are having a civil 'debate' about something like ohhh let's say Health Care Reform, once you have opposing views, other's chime in with their opinions, it was a civil conversation no name calling etc. etc just facts and opinions, why take your ball, go home and de-friend me?

Asking questions, debating reasoning etc. etc is how a debate works, if you weren't ready to debate, why step into the conversation in the first place, and then why de-friend me because you don't like the things going on in my conversation....

It's easy, stay out of the 'debatable' conversations, and just talk to me about my diet supplement review or something easy, where you won't get offended, where you won't get all huffy, and stay my friend!

I really don't understand people sometimes …. By the way, this Health Care debate/reform whatever going on, is exhausting! (and no, I don't want to debate this on the blog...)

Sucess for all....or is it???

As a parent we have many decisions we have to make, most of them are about our own children and their future. Education is something I think about a lot, and it's very important to me for my girls to be able to get the best education that can be provided for them at that point, and that doesn't always include the education they get at school.

However, my daughters school and the entire district is headed for some cuts that I'm just not fond of. I know schools across the country are going through this, and it's sad that cuts to things like the arts which is very important to our family and education have to suffer because of educational cuts that have to be done. I'm already thinking in my head what we're going to do in the upcoming school year and beyond, whether we pull my daughter from the public school district we're in and go to a charter, private or Montessori school, or keep her in and try to enroll her in programs we can find out of school, so we get her all the education she can take in without suffering.

Last night I was informed that the reading program they have at her school called Success For All (SAF) was going to be cut by the district. Something I was not happy about at all! The Success For All program is a comprehensive reading approach designed to ensure that every child will read at grade level or above, you can read more about Success For All by visiting their website www.successforall.net. As parents, we were sent home a letter about this, and asked to write to the district about our displeasure with them cutting the program, which I did!

My daughter has been excelling at reading, she loves it, and has been striving to do her best so that when they had their reading test, she would test above grade level and her goal was to go to the 1st grade reading program. She had her reading test last week, and came home saying she did really well and thinks she'll be going to 1st grade reading.

This morning I was chatting with my daughters teacher, I was telling her about how I wasn't happy with a lot of the cuts, but was equally disappointed that they'd be cutting SAF. She in turn told me that she was being pulled both ways and she wasn't too sad to see it go, I kinda of just looked at her sideways like are you kidding me? She explained to me further though. Only two schools in the entire district participate in this program, and while its a great program, if you leave this school and don't go to the other one that is provided with this program, that you would be back where you started. THAT I didn't know. She told me that my daughter tested high on her reading test, and she's so glad that she's excelling and wants her to push herself, she'll be starting with her 1st grade reading when they get back from break. I was happy to hear that.... However, there's a few things I didn't know!!

Her teacher informed me that my daughter will now be missing 90 minutes a day of Kindergarten to go up to the 1st grade class to spend their reading time with them. Which means she'll be missing the fun things they do that she knows (and I too) that my daughter loves, like calendar time, farm, animals, feathers that sort of fun curriculum that my daughter enjoys. She'll be missing all this to go to the 1st grade class to read. I was blown away, as a parent, shouldn't this be something disclosed to us? Shouldn't we have a say/choice in this?

I'm so happy that my daughter who never went to daycare, preschool or anything before her first year of Kindergarten is excelling at reading, it makes me feel good to know that I've been doing well with her at home, I'm so proud of her that she's at a 1st grade reading level, but I'm not happy that she's going to be missing educational things that she enjoys! I was under the impression that when they went to 1st grade reading, it wasn't any different, they were in a different classroom yes, but I thought it was during the rest of her classes reading time. Apparently that's how it USED to be but they since changed it, and she told me, even when the parents have come in to complain, it's a oh well your child tested here, your child is going to be staying here....

I now need to decide who I need to talk to and if I do talk to anyone and I don't just mean picking up one of the cellular phones to do it either, I'm talking about going in to talk to SOMEONE face to face! I'm thinking about letting my daughter see for her self first, but if she starts to complain about missing things her own class is doing, I just might have to step in and fix things. I can challenge her reading at home further if I have to, and we already do that anyways...

As a parent I feel pulled in different directions here. This is something that should be decided by myself and my family, something not forced to happen, something that should have been communicated to the parents a little better because we/I had no idea this is how the program works. Had I had known, I don't know that things would have been any different but I also know that I may not have pushed her so hard to excel with her test. Not that it would have made a difference, she reads well, that I wouldn't want to change, we read at home all the time and I do it with her every night, I want her to excel with her reading, but I don't like that other curriculum at her grade level now has to suffer, and now I don't know what to do.....

Lovely Lisa and Friends...

Things my girls love... Books, crafts, art, animals, anything pink and playing their Nintendo DS. My girls are actually probably pretty spoiled when it comes to their DS games, I can't even count how many they have, and while we do put some restrictions on how much and when they can play their Nintendo DS, they're pretty good with it. They have their few favorite games that you can find them play all the time, and they've just recently added to that favorites list.

Lovely Lisa and Friends for the Nintendo DS and Dsi has quickly become one of the girls top favorite games. With the ability to play dress-up in a virtual world Lovely Lisa and Friends just doesn't stop there. You need to learn responsibility as well by doing things such as helping out mom and dad with chores and different tasks.

Lovely Lisa and Friends is the follow up game to the Lovely Lisa game released earlier this year, which until recently I have never heard of. Perhaps Nintendo needs to put more focus and emphasis on showing these great games to consumers rather than focusing just on the Mario and Wii Fit games of the world.

My daughters really enjoy doing the tasks and moving Lovely Lisa and her friends up in the game by unlocking different features, and they do love being girls and doing the fashion bits as well. Another great feature that this game has, is that it lets young girls explore a lot of different career options like being a florist, and nurse rather than just being a fashionista.

The graphics on this game aren't anything spectacular, in fact it reminds me of some of the older games rather than a newer one, but to my 4 and 6 year old, it's more about what the game has in store for them rather than the graphics. But, if you do have the Nintendo Dsi you're able to use the camera as well and create costume outfits with your own style!

You can find out more about Lovely Lisa and Friends by visiting Tomy's website at tomy-usa.com.

This post was written for the Game Review Network and I was supplied the product for my own personal 100% honest review. Opinions are strictly those of the author of A Wrestling Addicted Mommy; please see my disclosure policy for more information.

Kiss can Kiss my ....

Thursday ended up being a REAL BAD DAY for me....

Hubby was off, so we decided to go shopping after we picked up my daughter from school. It was around dinner time when we went so we decided to stop off at IHOP to get a bite to eat. Thing was, I was attentively listening to the local radio station Kiss 92.5 because I had got a text message a few hours before, letting me know that at 5pm they were going to be giving away tickets to WWE RAW that's coming to town in May! Hell if I was going to miss that chance! They were giving away tickets before they were available to purchase to the general public.

Lucky for me, Kiss 92.5 is available on Iheartradio on my Blackberry, so as we're in IHOP I was sitting there with one earbud in my ear listning for my chance to call in, hubby's phone in my other hand, and trying to call and eat at the same time....

A few times I got rings and then nothing... They ended up giving the first pair away to some chick, this is what the DJ wanted, someone upbeat, someone who could say they were a huge wrestling fan, um HELLO!! A Wrestling Addicted Mommy!! There's no one in Toledo who's a bigger fan than ME! (ok hubby says that's not true because he's a bigger fan than me but I disagree! Lol)

They announce that they're going to give another ticket away and you have to prove that your a huge fan, so I continue to call and call and call. We get into the car and it rings... BOOMER the DJ picks up and I ask if they're still giving them away, he says yes! I SPEW OFF at 859034850 MPH how much of a wrestling fan I am, why I deserve the tickets, mention my blog, my twitter name, the websites I've ran etc I wasn't telling him abut any diet pill reviews or anything, I was mentioning wrestling things and proving why I'm a huge fan, even the amount of years both hubby and myself have been fans... I get the tickets right???

WRONG!!!

Jackass (excuse my language) Boomer says he doesn't believe that I”m in Toledo! Um HELLO?!? Yes I called the 877 number because whenever I call the local number it tells me the number has been disconnected or changed... No big deal...Not ONCE did anyone say you have to be a Toledo resident to win anyways! So I tell him yes I am, I tell him where I live, he says no I don't believe you, I said dude I'm at the IHOP and told him what street right now, and he said no sorry I don't think you're in Toledo and he HUNG UP ON ME!

This had me FUMING MAD for the rest of the day!!! I'm still so mad that I”m not even listening to that station anymore! But screw you Kiss 92.5, I got myself some better seats than you were probably giving away anyways!!

Lady Gaga Has Gone Too Far?

The latest Lady Gaga drama! Do we really care? Not normally but I had to weigh in on this one. This video was first brought to my attention while I was browsing my favorite blog Necole Bitchie.

Fox News aired a news report recently which was named “Has Lady Gaga Gone Too Far”. Have you seen the latest video called Telephone with Lady Gaga featuring Beyonce? If not, check it out below before you see the news story (beware its the explicit version):

Fox News claimed that the video Telephone was “pushing what critics call twisted sexual fantasies to children...” Um WHAT?! I didn't know that Lady Gaga and this video was aimed and geared towards children..

Sandy Rios says:
“You think you’ve seen it all and then ‘wait it’s more’. This time we have to speculate if she has a male member or not. Whether it’s been cut off or not. Then they do a mass murder at the end and then you have Beyonce and Gaga as gay and lesbian lovers. It’s disgusting Megan, I don’t like it and I would not under any circumstance allow my children to buy Lady Gaga’s cds or listen to them and I would explain to them why, this is just poison for the minds of our kids and for our minds for that matter.”

Check out the news report in full below:

Here's my take.... Lady Gaga is an ADULT!!!

As a parent myself, it’s MY RESPONSIBILITY to know what my children are watching and listening to. Lady Gaga may not be the best artist for some children, and as parents that’s up to US. If you child is looking to pop stars to influence them in their behaviors and how they’re going to act in life, then you as a parent aren’t doing your job CORRECTLY!

I hate when the media gets all up on ‘celebs’ of any sort saying this this and that are not good images for children. Here’s the thing… These ‘celebs’ that are normally talked about like that are ADULTS they’re not teens, they’re not kids, perhaps parents should be doing their job and letting their kids listen to KIDS and TEENS music and brush up on their parenting skills… Heck half the time you see some of these 'celebs' endorsing adult acne products, yes ADULT not teen products...

Otherwise…. Like myself don’t censor a lot with my children when it comes to music and whatnot, they can listen to what they like, watch what they want within reason, I believe that I myself as a parent am doing and have done a well enough job for my children to know the difference between how to act in life and society and what entertainment is!

I'm not a big Lady Gaga fan by any means, I do like some of her music but I'm not an all out huge fan, however she's an artist, she's an entertainer, people have choices to listen to watch and to TEACH and DIRECT their children as to what's right, and what's wrong. Blaming this that and the other for the way people are going to 'react' is just wrong. Videos, music, games etc are NOT what should be influencing your children or anyone for that matter, you teach them properly that's not what happens...

I don't see the video as a big deal at all.... It's a music video, it's entertainment, it's no difference than watching SAW or other horror movies which in my opinion can be much worse than this unique, weird music video, heck I've seen a lot worse in male dominated hip hop videos with 'video girls' shaking and prancing around in barely nothing, that I can find more offensive than this video, sorry the "lesbian" relationship doesn't bother me, nor does it bother me for my children to know about that, that's life!

What are your thoughts???

I met Alicia Keys!!!!

So during the beginning of March, I had a HUGE exciting surprise. I didn't blog about it for a few reasons, one being I wanted to have the official photo of what happened before I did and two, I really wasn't sure how the photo was going to turn out, I've been working on myself without weight loss pills but man, do I wish there was some magical pill that would make me just as beautiful as her...

For those who don't know, I'm a HUGE Alicia Keys fan. She's one of my all time favorite female artists. I've seen her in concert a few years ago, and was bummed she was coming to Detroit and I wasn't going.

I'm an Alicia Keys VIP member via her website, basically a fan club member. I've been trying to enter to win tickets whenever I can. Well the one day they had a contest for winning a Meet and Greet. Of course, I entered, figuring, If I win, we'll figure it out and I”ll get tickets. Not thinking that I'd actually win a meet and greet...

Well... about 4 days before the concert, I got an email... I WON!!!!!!!!!

I was FREAKING OUT!!!! I can't believe I won a meet and greet with Alicia Keys!!! Right away I bought two tickets, called up my mom and BEGGED her to come down to babysit, however hubby had to work and couldn't get it off, and I wasn't about to go alone, so I called up my best friend and of COURSE she was willing to come on down and head to the concert.....

We had such a great time, met a few new friends as well and of course Alicia Keys! She was so sweet and I'll never forget meeting her, just seeing the picture again gets me all excited and AHHHHH! Yea, this is just about as exciting if not more than meeting my wrestling boys!!! My only wish was that we got a bit more time with her, I would have loved to talk to her more. I've got my autographed pic, my photo with her, and lasting memories of such a great concert as well....

This Week On The View....

I've been slacking lately as one of The View Moms! I haven't been tweeting as much with the other moms, I've been so busy and with my laptop dying, I just haven't been online as much. During the week when I'd normally be watching The View I've been heading to the gym. I've been catching up usually at night though, thankfully you can watch past episodes online by visiting abc.com/theview, that really helps make up for the missed episodes. I hate missing my shows, especially The View, which is one of my fav's!

This week on The View as usual Monday was Hot Topics day, I missed Monday's episode, but will be re-catching it online later this week, I”m sure it's a great one as Jessica Simpson was there with the ladies.

On today's show, Marissa Tomei was to stop by to talk about her newest series called “Into the heart of Italy”. She teamed up with Bertolli's Frozen Foods and traveled to Italy with chec Rocco DiSpirito and actor Dan Cortese. The ladies also spoke about some hot topics, in fact almost the whole hour was taken up by so may of the 'hot topic' in the headlines today.

The rest of this weeks shows are as follows:

Wednesday March 17 – Dr. Drew Pinsky from Celebrity Rehab talking about addiction, Kate Gosselin as a special co-host. Mindy McCready, Mackenzie Phillips, Jenny Ketchum and Jennifer Gimenez join as guests.

Thursday March 18 - Get ready to laugh with Joy's "Month in ReView. Also, Jessica Capshaw from Grey's Anatomy joins and we're showing you the latest spring fashions from Macy's.

Friday March 19 -
Olympic gold medalist and Dancing with the Stars contestant Evan Lysacek visits. Plus, Designer Jason Wu stops by for "Fashion Friday" and Elisabeth and Kristi Yamaguchi from ABC's Thin Ice go ice skating.

I've had so much fun being one of The View Moms as I'm sure all the other ladies have as well. Don't forget to join all of The View Mom Ambassadors every day during The View by following the hashtag #theviewmoms as well as following @theviewtv on Twitter.

I am a participant in a Mom Central campaign for ABC Daytime and will receive a tote bag or other The View branded items to facilitate my review. Opinions are strictly those of the author of A Wrestling Addicted Mommy; please see my disclosure policy for more information.

Becoming Healthier Overall...

A lot of things have been going on with me lately. I've been trying to live a healthier life, things this past year (2009) have really gotten to me, and led me to believe that I'm not doing the best I can be doing, not only for myself, but as a role model to my children. So I've started to eat healthier, work out, and try to work on my body image as a whole, but that isn't all I have to do. I worked myself up to finally seeing a doctor after about 4 years and having a physical, I went to the dentist for the first time in I don't even know how long last year, and the next thing I have to do is go and see an eye doctor about some new eyeglasses.

It's been forever since I've seen an eye doctor. The last time I went, I must have been a teenager. I”m so bad at going to see doctors of any kind, my anxiety sinks in and I think the worst of the worst is going to happen, meaning even if they tell me I just need some reading prescription glasses, I'll question everything and think the worst of that as well.

I know that I do need to go, I know that since I've started driving again I really need to get those new glasses that I was told long ago that I need to wear when driving. It's just finding the time between life, all these other appointments I've been making, and the money that it's going to cost, to actually head out the door and do it!

Hubby went and got new glasses last year, and it was pretty expensive, even with our really great insurance, however, he's got really bad eyes and I know mine are no where near as bad as his, yet I worry about the cost of not only the appointment, but the actual glasses themselves as well. I know there are a lot of places where you can get glasses online, and most of the prices I've seen have been really great, a lot cheaper than I've seen in stores or the optometrist. We have ordered hubby's glasses online before and it worked out great, I think it's just time I get my butt in gear and get this done for myself as well.

I guess this blog post was mainly to just psych myself into doing this, going to one more doctor and getting over another hurdle. Being healthier doesn't mean just weighing less and looking good. It means getting my entire body in better shape and health, that includes my eyes as well...

For Love or Money...

The other night I had a dream and I thought it would make a great blog post.... Are you in it for love, or money...

What would you do?

The other night I had a dream about being swept off my feet by some ultra rich guy. He rang our doorbells and offered hubby to be taken care of by giving him millions of dollars, paying off the house, and giving him expensive gifts. In return, the only catch was that I had to leave hubby, get a divorce and move in and marry this 'rich guy' along with my two girls. The girls and I would be set for life, private schools, the best health insurance, money, a great house etc etc, no pre-nup nothing.... In my dream I was asked to make the decision, I woke up before I learned what my decision would be... (btw the dude in my dream, not bad looking at all! lol)

There are millions of scenarios that I could go through, but really, are you in it for love or money? It would be great to never have another worry in the world, and have the girls taken care of for the rest of their lives with no worry, but there would be no love. I could have always said sure, and sneak behind 'rich guys' back to see my hubby on the side, but would it all be worth it?

What would you have done? What would your decision be, stay in your current relationship where your just making ends meet but have a great life full of laughter and love, or trade it all in for the unexpected but be taken care of with no worries for the rest of your life or your children's lives?

New Entrees from Healthy Choice...

I've really been trying to watch my weight lately. I've started working out at the gym, and trying to eat healthier. Sometimes thats easier said then done though and I can use A LOT of help along the way.

Healthy Choice has some great meals that can help me watch what I eat, and help control my portion sizes as well. Healthy Choice just introduced 11 new entrees to its Cafe Steamers, All Natural Entrees and Select Entrees product lines. These new meals feature all natural ingredients and even have vegetarian choices. This makes me feel even better about eating their meals. Sometimes those 'frozen dinners' aren't all that great for you, but with their new line you can be sure your getting healthy, natural ingredients such as whole wheat pasta and yummy tasting veggies. I really like Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers, its more like a fresh tasting meal than a frozen microwave dinner.

I already buy a lot of Healthy Choice meals, it helps me on the days where I just don't know what I want, or need a healthy meal quickly and don't have time (or I'm just being lazy) to cook something myself. Also, if your doing weight watchers they have the point values right on the box!

You can find out more about Healthy Choice meals by visiting their website at healthychoice.com there's even valuable coupons you can print out for your next shopping trip.

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Healthy Choice and received a sample to facilitate my candid review. Mom Central sent me a gift card as a gift of compensation for participating. Off for the weekend....

Why is it when we're going away, ONLY for a weekend, my children feel the need to pack just about every toy they own!

We're headed to Canada this weekend to visit my parents and for some adult time with my best friend. How lucky do I feel, 2 weekends in a row I get out without kids! This is probably a first in the past 6 years!

I'm however, ready to leave, the children have made my work extra hard before we go though because now I have to UNPACK everything they packed. You'd think they were going to live at my parents house or something. It's only for a weekend, yet the amount of toys, books etc. that they've packed is unbelievable. Not to mention that they have all this stuff at their grandparents house already for when they come visit...

Oye! Wish me luck, have a great weekend everyone!
