Weight Loss and Grocery Shopping...

Yesterday I wrote a post about how hard grocery shopping is, and how finding healthy affordable foods, and meal ideas are also hard for me. I’ve gotten some great tips thanks to a few people both in my comments and email and I’d like to thank you for that.

Grocery Shopping is still a topic on my mind, and thinking there’s got to be a trick to getting the grocery shopping down to a science, especially when it comes to weight loss. I know there’s no magic pill or any magic cream that I can find like from www.msmcream.net that’s going to make this weight disappear; it’s about focus and hard work, eating right and exercise.

But I think that the grocery store is where it’s going to start to get me on the right track. I have to learn to NOT go down the dreaded snack/pop isle, and learn to spend more time in the produce section. I’ve got to learn to shop with a list! This is one of the hardest things for me. I recently just started couponing and that’s enough, a list is harder for me to not only write out but to remember as well. If I want to have a healthy diet though, I need to learn to plan out my meals, and shop by the list!

Another flaw, going grocery shopping hungry! This is a big NO! With my stomach growling, the smells from the bakery and the deli are oh so tempting and it makes you shop like you hungry, not shop for the healthy things I need to be looking for.

Planning out my trip may be the way to go. Coupons, shopping list, and the attack I’m going to go for, like shopping around the perimeter of the store first and foremost where I can find all the produce and fresh foods, and staying away from the inside isles where all the processed foods are.

I really do need some help with my lists though. Sometimes I have a plan to make x, x and x recipe and once I have the ingredients on my list, I’m overwhelmed with the amount of stuff on my list and then still have to include the normal every day stuff.

How do you organize your grocery shopping trips? Any tips on making a list, meal planning? Do you have any go to healthy items?

I can't go to the store without a list it makes me feel all frazzled, takes me twice as long and I always forget something.
With the way the pay checks come I have to shop for two weeks worth or food so I only go to the store twice a month...
I always write down the dinners I want to make. Than I go through and make a list of everything I will need to make all the dinners. After that I'll write down anything else that is needed like snack/lunch for my daughter, toiletries, dog food etc.
Also since I shop at the same store when we moved here I wrote down all the aisle and what was on them. When I make my list I can write down things I need in the aisle order so I'm not running all around the store. This also can help not to go down the "tempting" ones. It's kinda hard to get used to at first but has really helped me out. :)
Hope that may help ya some and good luck!!

I try to have the items for meals that I have planned written down. And the biggest help- Is going to the grocery store full! This seriously does help. On another note, try it once- do not go up and down any aisles, just make a big square around the store- You will find what you need, not what you want!

Heyyyy Gina,

I am a member of Sparkpeople.com.
It is free and run bu a couple that used to work for ebay.

In the "nutrition" area, it asks you a few questions then taylor makes a meal plan for the week for you.
If you do not like something like "green beans" you click on it and a list of substitutions that have the same nutrients and calories pops up and you can choose something else.
When you have all the days like you want, you can print out a grocery list.
Also the every 3 hour thing is in a book too.
"Eat All Day Diet:Eat 6 meals a Day and Lose Weight Fast"

Here is the Amazon link.

The Fiber One cereal (general mills) I mentioned is great because it has one of the highest fiber counts in all the cereals. And fiber will fill you up.
Good Luck,
Diane

Georgie,
I have the same problem with grocery shopping as you do! If and when i make a list i never follow it or i dont feel like hunting for whats on the list.I start feeling my anxiety coming through when im looking for items on my list and the store is crowded and my cart bumps everyone.I just feel like i have to get out because the feeling gets to overwelming for me.Especialy when im hunting for my coupon items. And my 2yr old really likes to ack out in the store,he opens everything and let trails scatter behind us of crayons or pretzals that he takes off the shelfs.I as well need some type of system because its not working.I end up with foods i shouldnt eat and never loose the weight.
Thanks,Shannon
