Healthy Grocery Shopping ...

Weight loss may be easy for some, but for me, not so much. I have to work, and work hard at it and continue to work hard at it even after I’ve succeeded.

One of the major problems I have is grocery shopping, I’m the one who does the shopping for the entire house, and although we mostly have healthy choices, there’s those little temptations everywhere, and I think oh I’ll get that for the girls, they’d like it. Then it’s in the house and tempting me nonstop. Then you have all the ‘healthy’ quick and easy meals, which really if you look (and take the time to look which I need to learn to do more) aren’t’ all that healthy at all. Sometimes finding healthy, good for you foods is just as hard as trying to do a Human Resources job search. High in sodium, low in calories but high in fats or carbs, I know making your own food with fresh ingredients is best, but let’s face it. I’m not a cook!

I really need to start trying out my hand at cooking more, with more fresh ingredients, but I do find when on a budget eating healthy isn’t all that easy most of the time. I shop at a local market for my fruits/veggies but at Walmart for everything else. Even with coupons in hand, feeding a family of 4 cooking every night, using fresh and healthy ingredients gets EXPENSIVE! Not to mention that my girls do eat pretty healthy, but a lot of the new recipes I like/want to try, they wouldn’t touch with a 10 foot poll, which means two meals to cook.

Sometimes this new healthy lifestyle change gets annoying, but in the long run, it’s worth it. Right?

I’d also like to give a shout out to Lisa Marie Varon otherwise known as Tara from TNA Wrestling. I wrote a post yesterday telling you guys she’s my motivation and inspiration, and I really mean that. She actually took the time out to send me a few emails back and forth via Facebook yesterday and gave me some great advice about diet and exercise which I’m going to follow. One of the hardest things she told me to do, eat veggies and high protein foods every 3 hours.

Every 3 Hours?!?!?!

That’s A Lot of food for me… But hey, if it works and really it’s only small amounts of veggies/high protein’s I think I can do it…. No make that I KNOW and I WILL do it!

A few years back I lost 60 pounds in 5 months. Eating every 3 hours was the diet plan I followed.

I would shop, then come home put the stuff up and take the night off, eating whatever I wanted (usually something I would pick up on the way home...pizza, KFC, subs.
Then the next day I would make my turkey burgers, soup, rice and spaghetti sauce for the week.
I would divide my baby carrots (whole carrots cut into sticks is cheaper)celery pieces, cuke slices, raw brocolli and cauliflower also cube cheese into serving baggies. To eat with fat free ranch dressing for snacks.

I would buy thinly sliced 99% fat free turkey lunch meat from the deli and alpine lace cheese. Romaine lettuce is healthier than iceburg. All this for sanwiches on low fat stoneground wheat bread. Make sure it says 100% stoneground.
Even better are whole grain tortillas to make wraps. Less calories than other bread.

If you eat a cup of soup at the beginning of a meal, it will fill you up. Also drink a full glass of water while cooking.

When you bake, banana braed or a cake, use unsweetened applesauce for the fat. Really. It works. Some use half the oil and half the applesauce, I use all applesauce.

A typical day of eating would be:
1/2 cup Fiber one cereal with 1/2 cup low fat yogurt. 1/2 Grapefruit or orange.

3 hours later: 1 apple with 2 cubes of cheese

3 hours later: 2 slices turkey 1 slice alpine lace cheese romaine, shredded carrot, chopped onion wrap with fat free ranch dressing.

3 hours later: 5 wheat thin crackers, hummus made with chickpeas, lemon juice, reduced fat peanut butter, garlic, cumin, sesame oil. Baby carrots and celery.

3 hours later: 1 cup of soup (no cream soup) Progresso has some good 100 calorie soups.
Spaghetti with vegetarian sauce just use zuchinni, onions and muchrooms instead of meat. Find a low sugar store bought sauce, saute the veggies and add to the sauce.( I use eggplant too)

If you are hungry before bed, a cup of sugar free hot chocolate made with low fat soy milk or skim milk.

Also when I would make tuna, I would use fresh spinach, shredded carrots, onions, an egg and chopped pickles to the point of lots more veggies than tuna.
If you make an omelet, use 1 whole egg along with 2 egg whites. mix and pour onto a non stick pan then add chopped fresh spinach, sliced mushrooms, onions and a sprinkle of fat free cheddar.

Ok thats enough hahaha. Good luck.

Oh and I walked. I started out walking in a big circle around my yard, then after a couple weeks I marked off a mile in the truck and would walk that then I started doing 3 miles every day. I would get up early cause it was hot and doing it before 7:30. Then come in and head straight for the shower.
I met 3 dogs that would walk part of the way with me.
