I’m an Italian woman who cannot cook! There I admitted it. Seriously I have such a hard time cooking; it’s just not something I’m really good at. I do love viewing new recipes and collecting recipe books though, at least that way it gives me great ideas that I can try to master. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t but it keeps me on my toes and keeps anything I cook very interesting. Recently I’ve been trying out more and more new recipes and I do notice I’m getting a bit better with my cooking skills, as long as I STICK TO THE RECIPE!!! (I have a hard time doing that sometimes, that’s where I mess up)As a busy mom with not a lot of time on my hands between cleaning, taking care of the kids, running a message board and blogging I like to find quick, fast, frugal recipes to try, that’s if I’m
going to cook. I notice we are really getting into the habit of using take out more and more. I think there are a lot of households that are the same way today, take out is just quick, fast and easy. It’s helpful a lot of times for moms and families.I found an interesting book from Knock Knock called The Takeout Cookbook. The interesting thing, it’s not really a cookbook at all. It’s more of a survival guide for takeout. The Takeout Cookbook teaches you the facts behind takeout and gives you the culinary skill-set of the future.
The book includes things such as:
• How to get the most value and pleasure out of your money, time, and digestion.
• The advantages of the pickup and the downsides of the drive-thru.
• The optimum takeout temperature for your refrigerator and which containers are microwave-safe.
• When to tip and when to complain
• The difference between nigiri and temaki, Neapolitan and Sicilian.
• How to throw fabulous takeout parties, and whether or not to let your guests in your cutting-edge takeout secrets
It’s a really cute and informative book. It reminds us that do use takeout a lot that using takeout doesn’t mean we’re lazy or extravagant; it’s a sign of our progress as human beings. You’ll also find in the book some interesting and useful items such as refrigerator labels for your takeout, so you know when to toss it, Comment cards to praise or critique takeout service providers, and pockets for handy menu storage.
