I swear I’m a magnet for religious people!

For those who don’t know me very well because in honesty religion isn’t something I really talk about on my blog, I am not really a religious person. I was raised Catholic, and basically forced upon the Catholic faith, to church, to school and all the usual rituals. As I grew up I had too many questions and couldn’t comprehend a lot that the Catholic Faith taught, nor did I believe a lot of it.

I have a lot of issues with religion, a lot of issues with the ‘faith’ that Christianity teaches, I’m not going to get into it on my blog much because there are a lot of friends, family, and readers that are Christian and for you that’s OK, but for me, it’s not something I really believe in or can fathom at this point in my life.

Anyways, no matter what it is, for some reason religious people flock to me! I can’t tell you how many times I get fliers tried to be handed to me, obnoxious people knocking on my door to ‘sell’ me their religion or their church even though there’s clearly a no solicitation sign on my door. Heck even about a year ago I met one of my neighbors who had some hand me downs she wanted to give me for Aria and she sticks a bunch of pamphlets and church fliers in the bag with them.

I can’t tell you how much this turns me off of people, it’s all well in good if that’s what you believe in but if you don’t know a person, I really find it rude and ‘turned off’ to you when you just shove religion in my face without asking me about my own views first.

The other day I was walking to the school to pick up Lyric, the little old lady down the street always comes out to say hi and to chat a bit, well this day she came out and said I was waiting for you I have something for you. You guess it, a nice little pamphlet to her church for a group called Moms Matter, at first I was like ok it’s just a mom’s group, until I actually looked into the pamphlet when we got home and was blown away at what I read..

And I quote “The older women must train the younger women to love their husband and their children, to live wisely and be pure, to work in their homes, to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands.” The entire thing is all well and good until the last part. To be submissive to their husbands, anyone that knows me knows I took a look at this and let out a big, loud HELL NO and threw the pamphlet in the trash. If someone wants to be like that, fine, but that is not something I would ever do, nor teach my two girls to be like when they’re married, I was just blown away by that statement.

I dunno what it is, I think I have a big sign on my forehead that says NON BELIEVER, NON CHURCH GOER or something like that, but I’m truly sick of all the people coming to me trying to get me to join their church or be part of their religion, I’m perfectly happy in my own type of ‘faith’ that I’m at right now!

This post isn’t meant to offend you who are Christian or church goers, if you are religious then that's great...for you... These are just my own views and thoughts, I don’t like organized religion, I don’t believe in 95% of the things Christianity teaches nor do I believe a book that was written so long about by some mystical men. I have my own thoughts about religion, I have my own thoughts about faith and about any sort of God, it’s not really what most people think/believe in, I’m different, I know that I just really wish people of Christian faith would realize that and not think I need to be ‘saved’ or something, I’m perfectly happy where I lay.

Amen!! :-D

I hate when religious people come to my door and knock too. I usually do NOT open the door and let them knock themselves out until they leave LOL. These people should respect others and not bug them because it is annoying as hell.

I to think many organized religions are filled with alot of twisted ideas.
They twist the words of God in order to control & brainwash people.
The Bible warned of these false people.
They are masters at twisting things around & making people think they will go to hell if they do not do as they say.
Many cults run under the fake idea that they are doing God's work.
Goverment has used religion to control people since the days of the Romans.
If you love christ & accept GOd then you can be your own church.
If you're lucky you will find a chruch( a small one) that is not twisting the bible to create rules & reasons why you should give them money.
One that just is simply people who love God & want to share that love without all the mind control & tricks.
It took me 20 years to do that.
Plus, I am anti social & hate crowds.
I too believe women are equal too if not greater than men.
However, many woman are still brainedwashed.
Basically, I am saying God is everything in my life...but these false Church's are not.
You don't have to be a "Circus Monkey" in some phony group in order to Love God!
You can do so all alone in you own home with just you & him.
I never feel bored or alone...I have a stenght & am fullfilled. I don't need any group to be part of to make me feel whole or not alone.
I only wish I could bottle this for whole world.
I faced death about 6 years ago. In fact during 10 hours of surgery my heart stopped many times.
I had prayed for enlightenment & I got it.
I awoke a new person.
Basically, this life is not true reality...for our enternal lives..but more of a dream/nightmare/show for our souls to grow & learn. It is just a few moments in time.

So listen to that song by Lenka: "The Show"
it really somes it up.
Sit back & enjoy the show!

Maybe you're a magnet for "religious" people because you make people like you! Has it ever occurred to you that maybe you're just a people-magnet in general?

To paraphrase Penn Gillette: How much would a person have to hate you to think you were going to hell and not try to help you?

Don't take it too hard. They are just trying to help. Sometimes Christians (I'm one) are clumsy. Sometimes they get the cart before the horse *and* forget to tie the cart and horse together. (Hello? Telling a non-believer to be submissive to her husband? How 'bout working on submission to God first? Or just giving you some milk and cookies and praying for ya?)

Anyway, I'm just saying they don't mean anything but good. We are all fallen and admittedly sorry imitations of the One we serve, so go easy on us. =)

I feel ya I am the same way but try to avoid the topic at all cost. I hate when these people come to my door the most, HELLO DO I KNOW YOU or do you know ME!! UMM NO!! I will say they got the nerve and so far they haven't messed with me on my Bad day~ I will tell you something else that gets under my damn skin is all these quotes everyone keeps posting about God and whatnot not because i don't believe because I do just in my own way.. BUT most of the people that post them are so full of shit and fake as hell and have no clue about Religion but just wants to follow the crowd. If you see my last facebook status about some folks don't need to be on social networking sites well that's what I was talking about LOL! and girl My family is bad at it UGH LOL..It annoys the shit out of me to log on and see all them praising god but living like a devil but put this front on like life is so good. I be like PLEASE! LOL OK sorry for my rant~

I really hate this too. I also have a "No Soliciting" sign on my gate...yes, they have to physically open a closed gate to come in...now that bothers me to no end. I don't want anyone telling me what to believe, and I think it is rude for someone to do so. Also the line about submission and husband??? Oh hell no is right. That makes me livid when I hear that. Great post - you are not alone.

I'm amused, I really am. And not in a bad way, I assure you. I live in Texas. It is not out of the norm for people to walk up to you here (strangers or whatnot), introduce themselves and the next thing out of their mouth is, "What church do you go to?"

I wanted to put up a sign that said something to the effect of "No Religious Solicitation". But my husband told me not to because he actually likes to debate with people that come to the door. I have no idea why. I usually wander off and go hide somewhere.

We were trick-or-treating one year and someone put Chick Tracts in my girls' bag. How obnoxious. Umm... Halloween? A PAGAN holiday? Give me a break.

I often feel like a magnet too some days.

Have a great story about two little old ladies questioning my husband at the door about religion. Upon leaving, one turned back and happened to notice that we had a little gargoyle statue above our door. She pointed and said, "What's that?" My husband said, "Don't worry, they're for keeping AWAY evil spirits." The little old ladies left in a hurry.

You must look like you need saving...lol. I couldn't agree more with all your points. If someone wants to seek out religion then let them do it on their own. Fortunately I live in a gated community so no solicitors of any kind can get in although since I sit at home unemployed and by myself all day I wouldn't mind if they came by. It might spice up my boring day!!

Have fun burning in hell.

Oh look! An obnoxious comment from someone who wishes to remain anonymous. Why am I not surprised.

Honestly I'm not surprised either, if your going to comment the least you can do is be up front about your own feelings if you agree with me or not, I don't care, everyone has their own opinions and feelings about faith and religion, that's why it's such a personal thing.

For the record Anon, I'd have to believe in such a place called hell in order to burn in it, and I don't, but thank you for the lovely comment :D
