Whirlpool knows moms are identifying challenges and coming up with creative solutions every day. To recognize this motherly ingenuity, the 2008 Whirlpool® Brand Mother of Invention Grant will provide winning moms with the necessary business resources to help bring their ideas to life.

New "Green" Category in 2008
To reward moms with sustainable ideas, Whirlpool added a "Green" category this year. Eligible ideas must meet one of the following criteria: minimize the impact on environmental resources, use recycled/natural materials or are an environmentally friendly product/service.

The entry from both the traditional and green categories that receives the highest overall score will become the grand prize winner.

Overall Grand Prize: One grand prize winner will receive a $20,000 grant, Duet® Steam or Cabrio® washer and steam dryer pair, a Whirlpool® dishwasher and a $3,000 stipend for a new home office.

Traditional Category

First Prize: One first-prize winner will receive a $7,000 grant, a Duet Sport® washer and dryer pair and Whirlpool® dishwasher.

Second Prize: One second-prize winner will receive a $5,000 grant, a Duet Sport® washer and dryer pair and Whirlpool® dishwasher.

Green Category

First Prize: One first-prize winner will receive a $7,000 grant and a Whirlpool® side-by-side refrigerator with water filtration.

Second Prize: One second-prize winner will receive a $5,000 grant and a Whirlpool® side-by-side refrigerator with water filtration.

All winners will attend a two-day business boot camp led by Whirlpool experts covering areas such as product development, business strategy, innovation and technology, legal, accounting and marketing.

We welcome all new product innovation, invention, service or business ideas except those about appliances or appliance components. Any appliance ideas will be disqualified.

If you have photos, renderings, DVDs, prototypes, business plans, patent documentation, etc. you would like to include, complete the printable entry form and mail it to the address listed on the form.

Prototypes, business plans, patent and trademark documentation are eligible for bonus points. See rules for more details.
